Mend and Make Do

Image
AKA: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle I developed skills at sewing, mending and altering since my clothes were hand-me-downs growing up. I have serious serious guilt over buying brand new clothes! (except under garments) This past year I went on a work trip to Moab and forgot PJs. I was just told by my boss we got a cost of living raise. I thought of buying something new as celebrating a raise so it was ok. I took this picture and called Shawn since it was a big "to-do" for me! Yes, I bought a Tarot deck too. (Still on the fence about the vibe of that deck...its hit or miss)    I love managing and being mindful of money and resources. This is who I am as a person and it extends to my work self too.   Fashion and Sewing Listen to this: "Disparate Youth" Santigold I have been wanting to get into costume, alterations and sewing in a more collaborative way. Theaters, performance art, anything. I have sewn since I can remember. I don't know of a time I did not make clothing, house hold items, soft sculptures and doll things/toys.  I put a portfolio together on a Google Doc. Most of the projects are soooo old!! I look like a baby in my early 20s! Looking through it though I am inspired to continue to challenge myself with fabrics. I thrift or make nearly everything. (My student violin was thrifted! I now play a nice one and will use the other for festivals or outdoors things.) The challenge was this: buy random bags of fabric from the thrift store and make something cool. I would look through fashion magazines and cut out things I liked or was inspired by. I don't do that much anymore. So sad about that. Fashion in SLC is non existent...in the Bay Area it was fun. Ju

I am rummaging through old sewing projects and totally forgot I made these for my brother in law. I really like how they turned out. I cut the shapes out, painted them and they worked the first iteration. They were wired and had stands.
