Sewing Extravaganza

Studio Arranged for Mad Amounts of Sewing

Sewing extravaganza time!! I like to pretend that I work in some fashion house atelier doing some wicked awesome designs. sigh. I'm just a home sewist. BUT its a useful skill :)

Tired of looking at Shirt on Mannequin

Basically, I had some fabric that I cut all the pieces but never put together. It was on my mannequin for a while and its getting past season to even wear it. I was somewhat inspired by necklines on sci-fi movies. Scoops, high collars, dramatic cowls. I wanted a drape that mimicked a scarve. It was a fun experiment and turned out exactly how I imagined but I'm not convinced I like wearing it. Its thrifted jersey knit so its fiiine.

Pinning butterfly sleeves:
My serger was bouncing off the table and I had to clamp something to keep it from moving. Shawn cut a piece of foam and placed it under. so no more clamping lol

Why NO Pockets?!

Brenda, we see you.

I woke up in the middle of the night this past week. 1:45 ish so it might be related to unresolved anger. OR Shawn used the restroom in the middle of the night... Who knows. But I was cold and tired that day. I dug out my favorite fluffy outfit. I was in a meeting for work and being cold and tired I went to put my hands in a non-existent front pocket. I thought "hell no, I'm doing pockets now!" I've added pockets to so many clothes over the years! It took an hour for the top and pants.

This is not a tutorial. I don't do those. I'm too busy for all that.  I'm sure there's a YouTube somewhere.

fuzzy flannel fabric, doubled up/ pocket shaped, serged around edge, folded and sewn to 2 slits on each side

hand and phone sized pocket

What's on my wrist? My favorite thing ever. Made from scrap of leather and elastic from a chocolate box. I save useful things. Its not a problem though. My grandma had the exact same fabric! I try to use it on things that I will see often :)

pockets are on both sides, (woops sneak peak at a mysterious painting)

Christmas Costume for Younger Sis

Now that I am warmed up! Time to make some patterns. Its easier for me to make a pattern than to meticulously cut one out, re-size/alter it etc...

I drew up ideas, Sis approved of the vest and skirt and provided the highlighted measurements:

I save packing paper. Its the BEST pattern making paper :) I iron it and keep it in a roll. I auditioned some fabrics. I am making her outfit red where mine is green and green where mine is red. Too cute. I hope it works....

Starching pieces:

It almost looks like I know what I'm doing. Don't be fooled. I attached iron-on interfaces for the scalloped bottom

Red pins tell me to STOP. I'm attaching sleeves so I am using this to turn- maybe.
